Groundworks are the foundation of any successful build, literally. Before construction can begin, the site typically requires clearing and excavation to the correct depth, followed by the installation of foundations appropriate to the ground conditions and the load the structure will carry. For new builds, this also includes drainage runs, service connections and the block and beam floor system before brickwork can begin. On extension projects, groundworks involve breaking out existing paving or concrete, digging new foundations that tie into the existing structure, and ensuring drainage is correctly routed.
